EAR WAX

How long does earwax take to soften?

Earwax is composed of a natural accumulation of skin cells, hair, dust, and wax which is part of a protective coating on the skin in the ear canal. Like many things in the body, the amount of earwax that a person produces differs largely between individuals. If you have an ear wax build-up and have taken to using an at-home method of olive oil drops, you may be wondering how long it will take for the earwax to soften and fall out. At Ear Wax Care, we are here to answer your question!

Some people may experience a build-up of earwax due to a multitude of factors, such as their ear glands producing too much wax, having a narrow ear canal which can easily be blocked, or if they use contact devices which trigger production of earwax. To deal with this, you can use 2 to 3 drops of olive oil 2 to 3 times a day for 2 weeks. You can use the olive oil at room temperature, or you may want to heat it until it is slightly warm.

Over the course of 2 weeks, you should expect that the earwax will become softened and eventually it will run out (usually when you’re lying down), without harming the ear. This process is pain-free, and decently effective, so in no time you should have softened earwax and be relieved of any symptoms you have been experiencing!
