EAR WAX
CARE

What should I avoid doing before a professional ear wax removal?

Before attending a professional earwax removal appointment, there are a few things we recommend avoiding to ensure a safe and effective procedure. Here are a few precautions you should take:

Submerging Ears in Water: It is highly advisable to avoid submerging your head underwater in the days coming up to earwax removal. Swimming and taking baths can cause excess moisture in the ear canal which can affect the removal process. We recommend taking extra precautions if you have suffered from recurring infections in the past.

Inserting Objects into the Ear: Using objects such as bobby pins and cotton swabs to remove earwax often causes more harm than good. Using such tools can push the earwax deeper into the ear canal, making it more difficult to remove. Using DIY methods can also increase the likelihood of infections and injury.

Using Earplugs or Headphones: Avoiding the use of earplugs or headphones in the days before ear wax removal can help to ensure the removal process runs smoothly. The earwax can often be further impacted when using these devices, causing negative outcomes.

Ignoring Symptoms: It is important to watch out for symptoms such as tinnitus, earache, hearing loss, and a feeling of fullness in the ear as these can be signs of an earwax blockage. Be sure to tell your ear health professional about these symptoms at your appointment.

You can help to ensure a quick and effective earwax removal process by avoiding these things in the days coming up to your appointment. For more handy FAQs, visit our FAQ page.
