Why does earwax fall off out my ear?

When it comes to the health of your ear, it can sometimes be difficult to know what is normal or not, and more simply, why your body does certain things. At Ear Wax Care, we want to demystify some beliefs related to the ears, and give you good, useful advice on how is best to look after them. A question you may have is about why exactly earwax falls out of your ears.

One thing that people are often surprised to hear is that the ears are in fact self-cleaning. This means that due to jaw movements, caused by acts such as talking or chewing, earwax naturally moves up and out of the ear. Over time, old earwax migrates out of the ear canal and falls out naturally, removing any debris and dead skin cells along with it.

As a consequence, contrary to false beliefs, there is no need to remove earwax from your ear using objects such as cotton ear buds, bobby pins, or even your fingers. In actual fact, using such objects can just worsen the problem by pushing earwax further into your ear and causing compaction.

If you do find, however, that the ear’s self-cleaning is not enough to remove your earwax, and you have a build-up, it may be necessary to get help from a health professional. That’s what our team here at Ear Wax Care is for. Do get in touch with us today to find out how we can be of assistance.
