Why Ignoring Earwax Buildup Can Lead to Bigger Health Issues

A small amount of earwax is actually beneficial for you, however, in some cases, it can lead to serious problems leading to much bigger health issues.

Hearing loss – One of the most common problems caused by built up earwax is temporary hearing loss. Blocked wax will prevent sound waves from reaching the eardrum, leading to issues like muffled hearing. Hearing loss can affect your quality of life if left untreated and lead to further complications.

Ear Infections – Built up earwax can lead to ear infections if left untreated. Earwax traps bacteria and when moisture gets inside of the ear it creates the perfect breeding environment for infections. If you have an ear infection then you may experience issues such as pain, swelling and even drainage from the ear. Infections which have been left untreated can lead to severe health complications.

Tinnitus (Ringing in the ears) – Blocked ears can affect sound from reaching your eardrums, and when wax is packed up against the eardrums it can cause a ringing sound in your ears known as Tinnitus.

Dizziness & balance issues – Ears play a huge role in keeping your body balanced. If there is built up wax inside your ears, it can lead to you feeling dizzy, unsteady and worse cases, a condition called Vertigo.

By maintaining your ear health with regular check-ups with your healthcare specialist and other preventative measures, you can reduce being at risk to some bigger health issues.
