There are many myths surrounding the purpose of earwax, including its removal and overall effects on your ears. We’re here to help you differentiate what is Fact from what is Fiction, so you know the best way to keep your ears clean and healthy.

 Earwax Is Dirty!

Fiction: Some believe earwax is dirty and need to be removed often.
Fact: Earwax is actually very important! it protects your ears from dust and bacteria. Your ears are naturally self-cleaning, so if you keep removing the wax it can cause your ears to become dry and irritated.

Cotton buds are good for cleaning your ears

Fiction: Inserting Cotton buds into your ears can push wax deeper into the ear canal, leading to blockages.
Fact: The safest and most effective way to remove earwax is letting your ears naturally remove it. You may also use natural methods such as warm water or oil drops.

Excessive earwax = Poor hygiene

Fiction: Some people produce more earwax than others, however, this does not mean they are not clean.
Fact: Earwax production can depend on your age, genes and even the environment around you. It’s natural and nothing to do with poor hygiene.

Ear Candling is great for removing Wax

Fiction: There are claims that Ear candling can help pull out wax using heat and suction.
Fact: There have been studies to show that Ear candling is not recommended and can cause burns and other injuries.
