Can Earwax Cause Headaches?

Pretty much every person has experienced a headache at some point in their lives, which is sometimes more painful than other times. But have you ever linked your headache to Earwax?!

Earwax is naturally produced by your body to stop any dirt and bacteria from entering your ear canal. However, when you produce too much earwax, it can start to build up and become impacted and lead to symptoms which can spread beyond your ears.

When your ears become blocked with earwax, this pressure can be felt deep in the ear close to the nerves which go near your head. These nerves are connected to the areas close to your ears, such as your jaw, face and your head which explain why you may experience a headache.

If you ever experience a headache due to impacted earwax deep inside the ears, the great news is that this is usually temporary. Getting professional help to remove the excess earwax safely can relieve any symptoms such as headaches. You should never use cotton buds inside your ear canal as this can often make your symptoms worse by pushing the wax deeper into your ear canal and cause a blockage.

Once your ears have been cleaned, you would usually feel better, however if the symptoms do not improve and you start to experience other issues alongside a headache such as pain or even a fever, then it is best to see a doctors to rule out if you have an Infection.
