Can Earwax Buildup Affect Your Balance and Cause Dizziness?

Earwax is an important substance which is created naturally by your body to help protect your ears from dirt and bacteria. Earwax is usually self clearing, however, sometimes when too much builds up it can cause your ears to become blocked leading to further issues such as dizziness and even affecting your balance.

Ears are not just for hearing; they also play a crucial role to help you balance. Medically speaking, the inner part of your ear helps regulate equilibrium and spatial orientation. When earwax builds up inside your ears, it can press tightly against the eardrum leading to pressure which can interfere with how sound travels through your ears. This can then cause symptoms such as a feeling of fullness in your ears and leading to imbalance and dizziness.

Severely blocked earwax can cause a condition known as Vertigo which causes a spinning sensation and be quite unsettling. You may also experience other issues such as muffled hearing, Tinnitus and even pain. Other causes of dizziness can be caused by more sermons conditions such as Meniere’s disease; therefore, it is important to be able to distinguish the cause of the issue.

If you feel like you are suffering from earwax buildup, and noticing other issues like dizziness and imbalance, it is important to understand that these issues are treatable. However, you should avoid inserting anything deep inside your ears such as sharp objects and cotton buds, as these can push the wax deeper into the ear canal. Instead, opt for professional help who will be able to advise on safe and suitable solutions for relief from such symptoms caused by blocked earwax.
