EAR WAX
CARE

Can earwax cause ear pain or discomfort?

Ear wax is a naturally produced substance which is produced by your ears, and it plays an important role in protecting your ears and keeping them healthy. However, it is possible that you experience a wax buildup, which can cause problems, and eventually at some point lead to impacted ear wax. So, how does this happen, and what can the symptoms of too much ear wax be?

Inside your ear, there are special glands which secrete a substance that combines with dead skin cells to form ear wax. This substance is naturally removed from the inner part of your ear canal to the entrance. However, it is possible that this process can be hindered. For example, if you make too much ear wax, or if you insert foreign objects into your ear canal, this can cause the wax to become compacted.

Normally, ear wax won’t cause you any issues, unless it becomes impacted. For example, you might experience hearing loss, an earache, a feeling of fullness in your ear, or dizziness. If you experience these symptoms, then we’d suggest that you use an at home method of oil drops to remove the wax. Add 2 to 3 drops of olive oil to your ears whilst you lie on your side. Then repeat this 3 to 4 times a day for 3 to 5 days. After 2 weeks, your ears should be unblocked.

If you’re still experiencing pain and discomfort after 2 weeks, we’d suggest that you get in touch with our friendly team here at Ear Wax Care to discuss how we can help! We offer a range of services, including microsuction, which will help your ears feel relieved and pain free!
