Do You Need Ear Drops Before Microsuction?

If you’ve made the decision on Microsuction, you may have been wondering if there is anything you need to do beforehand to prepare for your appointment. Sometimes simple things such as ear drops may be required to make the process easier and more effective, however, this is not always necessary.

There any many different methods of earwax removal and Microsuction is one of the quickest and popular methods available. This procedure is carried out by a trained professional who uses a gentle suction device and a small microscope to see deep into the ear canal. This method does not use water; therefore, the ear canal stays dry and can be removed safely without the use of ear drops.

If your earwax is completely hard an impacted, then eardrop may be beneficial to help loosen it up before having Microsuction. This can help make the procedure more comfortable and easier to remove the impacted earwax.

You can use any type of ear drops suitable for ears such as olive and coconut oil drops and even prescribed drops. Before your appointment, using just 2 to 3 drops per ear is more than enough to help loosen up the blocked earwax so it can be removed easily. However, it’s always advisable not to use too much as this can cause further irritation and delay the appointment.  Always read the label and follow the advice of your healthcare provider if you’re unsure on what drops to use.
