Does Shower Water Increase Earwax Build Up?

You would be pleased to know that shower water does not increase earwax build up, however it can affect the texture of the earwax itself.

Earwax is naturally produced by your body to help protect you against any dust and bacteria from entering your ear canal. Earwax is also naturally cleaning and will fall out if the ear itself. However, sometimes it may need to extra help to move it along.

Sometime a little warm water from the shower can help soften the earwax if it’s built up, but it can also have an adverse reaction. When shower water is mixed with earwax, it can swell up inside the ear canal which can then cause some mild discomfort and reduced hearing. Shower water can also get trapped behind wax and build up moisture. This can actually increase the risk of having an infection.

To help clear your earwax out naturally, it’s best to just leave it alone and let nature take its course. However, if you do experience regular build up of earwax, there are a few at home remedies which you can try, including warm shower water. Once you let a little of the shower water in your ear, make sure you tilt your head on that side to let the excess water drain.

You can clean the outer ear using a town or cotton bud, but never insert anything long or sharp into your ear can
