Ear Irrigation and Microsuction are both highly effective methods for removing blocked earwax from the ear canals. However, it is important to understand the differences between the recovery time for both methods.
Ear Irrigation
This method is carried out using warm water to flush the wax out from the ear canal. As this method uses water, people often experience some temporary discomfort such fullness of the ears, irritation and even dizziness. These issues are only temporary and generally get better within a few hours, however, for some people it can take around a whole day to fully recover.
Ear irrigation is not recommended for people with sensitive ears and those who have a suspected ear infection or perforated eardrums. This can cause a slower recovery can be slower and increase the risk of further irritation.
Microsuction
This method provides a much quicker recovery time compared to Water Irrigation. The procedure is carried out by a trained clinician who uses a small microscope and suction device to efficiently removed any blocked earwax without the use of any water. People who have Microsuction generally feel better immediately after having the treatment and there is no downtime for recovery. This option is great for people who have sensitive ears.
Both methods are highly effective, however when comparing recovery times, Microsuction provides a faster recovery compared to ear irrigation.
