Earwax plays a very important role in our body’s, however, too much of this can lead to further problems such as balance issues and spatial awareness.
Your sense of balance is directly related to your inner ear, which helps your brain to understand your balance and general movement through sound. When your ears become blocked or impacted, this can stop sound from travelling through your ears causing interference with the signals to your brain which can ultimately throw off your balance.
When too much earwax is built up, it can push against your eardrums. This can then lead to you feeling dizzy or unsteady. You may also feel lightheaded and have issues balancing. Even if you have lightly impacted earwax in your ears, it can affect spatial awareness, which then makes it harder for you to judge distance and direction.
It is always important to understand that although earwax can affect balance, it is not always the leading cause. It can also be caused by ear infections, fluid, and even some medical conditions which can all cause similar symptoms.
There are several measures which you can take to keep your ears healthy overall, which can ultimately protect your balance, spatial awareness and long term hearing. If you do notice something is a bit off and you have unusual symptoms which last more than normal, then it is very important to seek medical advice as soon as possible, before these start to worsen and start affecting your balance or spatial awareness.
