How to Manage Earwax When You Wear Earplugs Daily

Some people are required to wear ear plugs on a daily basis, especially those who work in a noisy environment such as with loud machinery, or even those who swim daily as part of their health routine. Whatever the reason for wearing earplugs, it ultimately helps to protect your ears. However, daily use can increase the risk earwax buildup.

Here are some tips to help you manage earwax when you wear earplugs daily:

  • Cleaning – Ensure your earplugs are cleaned regularly especially if they are reusable. Earplugs can often trap dust and earwax which can then get pushed back into your ear canal causing the earwax to become blocked.
  • Correct Earplugs – Ensuring your earplugs fit correctly and are not too tight can help prevent any issues long term.
  • Home Earwax softening remedies – Using eardrops or natural oils such as olive oil or coconut oil, can help keep your ear wax soft and avoiding blockages. Keeping your ears moisturised can help with any itchiness and dry skin. However, it is also important not to overuse these.
  • Take a break – If you can, try to take regular breaks from wearing earplugs for long period of times. This will allow your ears to breathe and stop any moisture for becoming trapped and earwax build up.
