Earphone have become a part of normal, everyday life for most of us. Whether that be listening to music in the gym or taking an important call at work, whatever the reason, we tend to use earphone for a good amount of time per day. Although they are a convenient bit of technology, they could be having a negative effect on your ears.
Earwax is a natural substance made by your body to help keep your ear health protected. It usually falls out of your ears naturally by every day jaw movements such as eating and talking. These actions help to push the earwax through the ear canal which eventually falls out on its own when dry. However, if you wear earphones for long, this can prevent the natural cleaning process of your ears. Overtime, earwax can end up being pushed deeper into the ear canal causing a build up.
Wearing earphones can also trap moisture as air cannot circulate inside the ears. This can eventually make earwax soft and sticky which is more prone to building up and causing a blockage. In some serious cases, it can even lead to infections due to bacteria becoming trapped in the ear. This can cause unpleasant symptoms such as pain, discharge and fever.
To keep your ears healthy and reduce the risk of earwax buildup, Ensure you take regular breaks from wearing earphones for prolonged periods. Cleaning your earphone routinely can also reduce your risk of complications from build ups.
