The Role of Diet & Hydration in Earwax Production

Your body produces Earwax naturally by the glands in your ear canal. Its main role is to protect against dirt, bacteria and other foreign particles from getting through to the eardrum.

When it comes to diet and hydration, this can have a huge part to play in the overall consistency and quantity of earwax you produce. If you consume a diet rich in omega-3 fatty acids from things like fish, nuts, and seeds, this can contribute to your earwax texture to become more balanced, protecting your ears from dryness or earwax buildup. However, sometimes eating foods high in saturated fats and processed foods can even lead to earwax being thick and sticky, making your ear canals prone to blockages.

It is important to also ensure you are getting enough vitamin rich foods in your diet. Ensuring you are consuming foods rich in Vitamin A such as carrots, spinach, and sweet potatoes can helps keep the skin and glands in your ears keep healthy. Another important vitamin is Zinc, which is found in meat, beans, and dairy products. Zinc can help the glands work properly and stop too much earwax from forming.

Drinking enough water affects how your body secrets things it no longer needs, including earwax. Ensuring proper hydration will in turn support the ear function optimally, and making sure your earwax is soft and more manageable. Not keeping yourself hydrated can lead to dry, flaky and hard earwax, increasing the chances of blockages.

Overall ensuring you maintain a balanced diet and proper hydration will regulate earwax production and reduce the risk of blockages and other issues.
