Tips for Keeping Your Ears Healthy & Protecting Your Hearing

Your ears play a huge role in helping you to hear and stay balanced, so it is very important to take extra care of them. Here are ten tips for keeping your ears healthy and protecting your hearing:

Keep away from loud noises – Limit your exposure to loud sounds in places like music concerts or around heavy machinery in a work place. Prolonged exposure to loud noises can be harmful to your ears.

Use protection – Ensure you protect your ears from loud noises when at a concert or construction sites, by using ear defenders and earplugs.

Keep the volume low – Keeping the volume at a sensible level will help to protect your hearing – 60% volume for no more than 60 minutes!

Rest your ears – Spending some time in a quiet place will help to give your ears a break and keep them healthy for longer.

Avoid putting things inside your ears – The use of cotton buds and other objects can push wax deeper into your ear canal and cause further damage. Let your ears self-clean naturally.

Keep them Dry – Constant moisture inside your ears can lead to ear infections. Ensure you dry your ears after swimming or showering.

Safe Cleaning – If you have excessive wax which needs cleaning, use gentle at home methods such as olive oil or over the counter ear drops to safely remove it yourself.

Keep Healthy – Ensuring you exercise regularly and keep fit. This will help with the blood flow around your body, keeping your ears in the best health.

Diet – Eating a well-balanced diet can help to improve your ear health. Foods rich in Vitamin A can help support your immune system by reducing the risk of ear infections.

Keep in check – If you have a history of excessive earwax then it is import and to see a healthcare professional for regular checkups. This will help detect any issues early.
