Why DIY Earwax Removal Can Be Risky

Attempting to remove earwax at home using DIY methods can be very risky due to the dangers it can pose to your ear health. If you have excess earwax which is problematic, getting it removed professionally is the best and safest option.

One of the biggest risks of DIY earwax removal is that you can end up pushing the wax deeper into the ear causing a blockage. This can then lead to further complications such as temporary hearing loss, and make it harder to remove the wax when necessary. Many DIY earwax removal methods such as Ear Candling, can actually make the problem worse. These methods are not scientifically proven to work and can cause burns if not done carefully.

Another reason not to use DIY earwax removal methods us due the damage it can cause to the ear canal and eardrum. The ears are very delicate and sensitive, therefore, inserting any objects into it can cause irritate and cause damage. There is also a risk of infection if you use non-sanitised objects inside the ear as bacteria can enter and cause an infection if you accidentally scratch yourself. An ear infection can cause a lot of pain and discomfort in individuals. Symptoms include swelling, discharge, and can even lead to fever if not treated.

It is important to know that excessive earwax could be a sign of an underlying issue and it is always recommended to seek professional help and advice from someone who can diagnose and treat these issues properly.
