Why Some People Produce Far More Earwax Than Others

When it comes to earwax, there are plenty of questions that might have if you seem to produce more than some people around you. There are lots of possible reasons why this could be, such as your age, diet, hygiene and so on.

Naturally, people produce different amounts of earwax which can be wet or dry. People who have wet earwax tend to produce more and people with dry earwax usually produce less. Hormonal changes in your body, such as going through puberty, or menopause can also have an impact on how your body work, down to producing earwax. Sometimes, stress can also be a factor to the increased production of earwax. If you live in a heavily polluted area, this may also cause your ears to produce more wax to trap any dust and debris.

People of all ages can experience a difference in earwax production. Children tend to produce more earwax compared to adults. As we get older, earwax can become dry, and can cause a build up because the skin inside the ear sheds more slowly than it does when we’re younger. Sometimes, even the shape of your ear canal can affect how much earwax is produced, especially, if you have narrow ear canals.

If you feel that you’re producing more earwax than others around you, then it’s always a good idea to have it checked by a professional. They can rule out any underlying health conditions which may be contributing to the excess earwax production, such as eczema or an ear infection.
