Why Your Ears Feel Wet but It’s Actually Earwax

It can be a little confusing or even worrying if your ears ever feel wet inside. However, in most cases there isn’t anything wrong, as the wet feeling is usually your earwax. Earwax is an important part of your body which helps protect your ear canal by trapping any dust and bacteria.

You may sometime feel some wetness inside your ears especially after you shower, sweat from exercising or swimming. This is because the earwax can become soft and melt a little in these conditions causing it to become wet.

Sometimes your ears may feel wet inside your ear canal if there is a build up of wax. When earwax starts to build up, it can trap moisture which can create a wet feeling inside the ear. People you regularly use earbuds or even hearing aids will often feel wetness inside the ears as these devices can block the airflow to the ear canal and trap moisture.

So, rest assured, wet earwax is actually pretty common and often nothing to worry about. However, if you do start to experience any discomfort or notice a strong smell then it could be something more serious like an ear infection. If this is the case then it’s best to get this checked out as soon as possible.

I most cases, wet earwax is generally harmless as this is a natural cleaning process of your body to rid of the excess wax. If you do need to clean them, make sure your do this safely my avoiding putting anything into the ear canal. You can always seek professional help if you need the earwax removed safely.
